Social Enterprises and Community Development in Rural Areas Workshop

May 6th – 11th, 2019 Uherce Minerale, Poland

Within the Cooperation of V4+ rural tourism actors through social and digital innovation project.

The workshop will be available for 25 participants: for students and for young entrepreneurs from Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Romania and Ukraine. The participation is free of charge but previous experience in community development, in NGO projects, in enterprises on in family related businesses is required. Transportation cost can not be reimbursed or covered by this project.

Planned Programme and Contents

During the event Participants will have the possibility to improve their services through interactive, tailor-made exercises and with the help of the facilitators, experts during individual consultations they will implement their social entrepreneurships’ business model and plan. Entrepreneurship is considered a central force of economic development, as it generates growth and serves as a vehicle for innovation and change. This workshop will be a capacity building programme that provides skills and support systems for a new community of social entrepreneurs. The workshop will bringing together about 30 social entrepreneurs from them to capacity builders. The idea is to encourage development of rural social enterprises strengthening cross-sectoral collaborations to sustain community development.

1st day: Monday, May 6th

14:00 – 16:00 Presentation of the participants – be prepared to present your project in 4 minutes, yourself, your mission and your project.

Importance of social enterprises to rural communities, types of social enterprises within a rural landscapes, governance and funding complexities, the importance of networking. Case studies and examples. Based on your understanding of the problem, what is your theory about which actions and resources will lead to the results you want to achieve?

At start-up stage: • How much start-up capital do you need? • What sources are available to provide seed capital? • How will you spend it? • What is your burn rate? • How will you acquire capital to go to the next level? • How will you fund scaling the organization?

Revenue mix – contributed and earned Identify fixed and variable costs of operating your model • Cost structure – what is your unit cost and how does growth affect it • Cash flow projections and income statements (3 – 5 year) • Sustainability – good and bad projects die when cash ends—pay attention to cash

Create a measurement and evaluation/data system and culture • How will you assess your organization’s effectiveness in achieving its mission • Indicators should link back to your mission, theory of change and strategy – Just enough indicators, and no more: i.e., the critical ones – Adapt measures and process to the stage of the organization – Set and measure interim milestones on the way to longer-term goals – Use measures to improve your program and organization

Milena Milošević Micić, Serbia: Milena Milošević Micić works as a Senior of the Homeland Museum of Knjaževac.  For the past 16 years she has been working on the development of the museum programs, projects and collections as well as in management and promotion of museum’s work with a main goal to develop new role of the museum in the local community. She believes that museums are public spaces open for everyone, forums for open dialogs or debates, places of unique values of common heritage. She is a member of ICOM, Serbian Museum Association, and proud member of the Balkan Museum Network’s Steering Board and Access Group

Monika Ochwat – Marcinkiewicz, Stowarzyszernie Ekopshycologia Association, Poland: Psychologist, trainer, Carpathian convention specialist. Many years of experience in coordinating projects [e.g. 1. Building a Coalition for Sustainable Development of the Carpathians. 2. Green Carpathians Portal. 3. Nature is the future of the Carpathians. Small grants – big changes. 4.; 5. Identification, protection and promotion of the heritage of the Carpathian]. 6. Carpathian Partnership “Carpathians our home” active partner of civil dialogue” [2011 – 2014]. Carpathian convention specialist: 1. Support for sustainable development of the Carpathians through an environmentally friendly tourism [2009 – 2010]; 2. Carpathians Unite – mechanism of consultation and cooperation for implementation of the Carpathian Convention [2012 – till now]. Co-author of publications: “Guide for waste management in mountain areas, “Environment Friendly Tourism. Guide implementation in the Polish Carpathians”.

Mátyás Szabó, Hungary: Economist and Ph.d. in rural development, working in this field on several level (Local Action Group, Regional, Central-National and EU) in the implementation and planning. Lecturer of the Corvinus University Budapest. Expert of project and time management. Worked with several grant and spent 1 year in Bonn, Germany in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Has the aim to make as more complex development as possible in the rural areas. Father of two children.

Ágnes Szabó-Diószeghy, Humtour LLC., Hungary : Experience in project management in national and international projects regarding ecotourism.She holds a M.Sc. Degree in “International Relations, Policies of the European Union”. International courses on social entrepreneurship and community development.Founder and CEO of the Humtour LLC. which aim is to introduce special local traditions and cultural heritage in the rural areas through community-based and sustainable touristic programs. Participating in international networks (UN Environment – Carpathian Convention, EURAC Research). Editor of the „How to Attract Tourists – Ecotourism handbook for rural handicraft entrepreneurs”

Vitezlav Vitkovic , Association of Rural Tourism and Agritourism, Czech Republic : Vitezlav is owner of a 10 rooms guesthouse, Apartmány Kocourek in the rural areas of the Czech Republic, Kocourovy Lhotky and he gained 15 years of experiences in the tourism sector working for his county council destination departments. He is qualified and experienced in the area of rural tourism as well as in the mass tourism.
