Wildlife through the lens: Nature photography tour for beginners at Lake Velence - Saturday, April 25, 2026

Have you always been enchanted by the beauty of nature and the secret world of wild animals and plants? Would you like to not only experience it up close, but also capture it? Are you interested in the secret tricks of master photographers, who can elevate the captured moment to an artistic level and convey the magic of nature, its unspoiled, sometimes majestic, sometimes charming beauty to others?
Then join us on an exciting amateur nature photography trip around Lake Velence!
🇬🇧 The tour guide will conduct the program in two languages, Hungarian and English, as required.

No prior preparation or professional equipment is necessary; even your cell phone camera may be sufficient to participate in the tour. Learning expert tips and approaches, and observing birds and flora on site is an experience in itself.

In addition, our award-winning wildlife photographer and conservationist tour guide can provide useful tips on choosing the right equipment if you are seriously considering pursuing your passion for nature photography.

Before we head out into nature and focus our cameras, our tour guide will give a short (approx. 1-hour) introductory presentation to familiarize us with the basics of nature photography.

The broader location of our tour is the area surrounding Lake Velence, one of Hungary’s largest (25 km²) natural shallow lakes. The western part of the lake has remained in a near-natural state and is characterized by extensive reed beds, which provide a breeding and feeding ground for numerous protected and highly protected bird species.

Located south of the lake, Dinnyési-Fertő is also a wetland of international importance, and this nature reserve will be the venue for our field nature photography workshop.

On a good day, you may spot the following species: greylag goose, great egret, black-headed gull, tufted duck, common pochard, reed warbler, spotted reed bunting, reed bunting, marsh tit, coal tit, red kite, marsh harrier, black stork, and mute swan.

The main habitats of Dinnyési-Fertő are determined by the presence of water, primarily characterized by alkaline marshes, standing water communities, non-peat-forming reeds, rushes, as well as salt marshes and tall grasslands.

Our tour guide, Zsombor Boromisza, is a university lecturer, landscape architect, landscape conservation expert, member of the Hungarian Ornithological Society and the Hungarian Hydrological Society, and a passionate and renowned wildlife photographer who is equally passionate about sharing his knowledge and and tips with those who are just getting acquainted with the profession, even at the hobby level. During our tour, he also strives to instill in everyone his lifelong passion, the concept of nature conservation.

“Wildlife photography has been a part of my life for a long time, and it has always matched my professional interests. My knowledge of nature conservation has often helped me prepare for beautiful moments and find species, and conversely, I have learned a lot about nature through photography.”
