At 9 am at our meeting point in Agard, before we head out into nature and ready our cameras, our guide will give a short (~1 hr) introduction and presentation on the basics of nature photography.
We will then get into our cars and head out into the wild.
The wider area of our tour is the Lake Velence area, one of the largest (25km2) natural shallow lakes in Hungary. The western part of the lake is characterised by extensive reed marshes, which have been preserved in their natural state and provide breeding and feeding grounds for numerous protected and highly endangered bird species.
The Dinnyési-Fertő wetland south of the lake is also a protected landscape area of international importance, and will host our field photography workshop.
On a lucky day, you may see these species: greylag goose, great egret, black-headed gull, red-crested pochard, mallard, Savi’s warbler, sedge warbler, great reed warbler, bearded reedling, great tit, common kestrel, western marsh harrier, black-winged stilt, mute swan.
The main habitats of the Dinnyési-Fertő are characterised by the presence of water, mainly salt marshes, standing water seaweed communities, non-peat-forming reed beds, sedge meadows, and high meadows.
Our tour guide, Zsombor Boromisza is a university teacher, landscape architect, conservation expert, member of the Hungarian Ornithological Society and the Hungarian Hydrological Society, passionate and renowned nature photographer, who is equally enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and tips with those who are getting acquainted with the profession even on a hobby level, and during our tour he also tries to transmit his heartfelt commitment to nature conservation to everyone.
“Nature photography has been a part of my life for a long time and has always complemented my professional interests. Many times my knowledge of nature conservation has helped me prepare for beautiful moments, find species, and conversely I have learned a lot about nature through photography.”
After our hike, around 2 pm, we will have a delicious picnic lunch made from home-grown ingredients.
After lunch, during a technical workshop and lecture we learn the basics of photo editing, and have a mini-exhibition/screening of the images we took that day.
The program is expected to end around 4 pm.
