Edible Forest: Flavors, Nature, Connections – at the foot of Gerecse – Agostyán, October 19, 2025 (Sunday)
Let nature be your guide!
Discover the hidden treasures of Gerecse on a special tour where you can learn about the flavors and knowledge of the wilderness. During the walk, a biologist and herbalist will guide us so that we can experience firsthand how much nature has to offer in its pharmacy and pantry.
🥾 What will the tour be like?
The central location of the program is the Agostyán Arboretum, one of the hidden treasures of Gerecse.
10:00 a.m. – Arrival at the arboretum. Guests will be welcomed with refreshing herbal tea.
Guided tour of the arboretum
Tour guides: Ádám Mocsi, director of the arboretum, and Anna Werlein, biologist and expert on medicinal plants and mushrooms. With their expert guidance, we will learn about the special features of the arboretum: rare tree species, diverse wildlife, and the history of the landscape. In addition, we will learn to recognize wild edible plants, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs, while deepening our connection with nature—not just by observing it, but by paying attention to it and caring for it.
Excursion to the round church of St. Peter in Gerecse
During this short tour, we will visit one of the most valuable historical monuments in the area, the ruins of a round church from the Árpád era. Built in the 12th century, the church was once the parish church of the village of Kovácsi. The 800-year-old ruins are hidden in the shade of beech trees on the western side of Gerecse, and remain a popular and peaceful place to relax. The round church is a rare example of Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture, of which there are few examples in Hungary. Its simplicity and yet impressive form reflect the power and beauty of medieval sacred architecture.
