Animal farm visit and cheese making workshop at the foot of Vértes mountain

We will visit an animal farm at the foot of Vértes near Csákberény, about an hour from Budapest. The owners mainly deal with keeping Hungarian traditional cows and processing dairy products. They have a wide selection of cheese, natural, with garlic, smoked and matured as well. The main specialty is a type of fresh, curd cheese, which is made in various flavors.

The high quality of milk is due to three factors:

Breed: These tpye of Hungarian cows give only 10 liters of milk a day, compared to 20-25 liters of large breeds, so the milk is more concentrated.

Housing: Due to the natural housing, the animals have an extremely long life span. They walk 4-5 km a day, and leg and udder diseases are unknown at the ranch.

Feeding: As the cows graze on the meadows of the Vértes Protected Area, the natural vitamin and mineral content of the pasture is incorporated into the milk. During winter time the livestock feeds on the fodder that comes from these pastures.

In addition, ham, bacon, salami, sausage, liver sausage, black pudding, homemade frankfurters and other delicacies are prepared on the farm. You will be delighted to find not only cows, but also many other animals: goats, horses, ponies, calves.

Meet the farmers, warm-up conversations accompanied with refreshments and organic snacks

Walking tour on the farm

    • Interesting facts about the daily operation of the farm, farming methods, processing of milk and meat
    • Visiting the cheese factory, introducing the cheese making process

Cheese making workshop with the help of a professional cheese maker (max. 6 people at a time). Everyone makes about 250-300 grams of cheese with a chosen flavour, which you can take with you at the end of the day.

3-course generous lunch with a variety of options (appetizer – cheese selection, guinea fowl soup; main course – oven-roasted pig, pork sausage, black pudding, beef stew; dessert – homemade strudel with chimney cake baked on charcoal)

Village Life Quiz – participants have to respond to interesting, sometimes puzzling questions with interactive elements. The first-place will receive a glazed ceramic pálinka glass, which they can try right away with a good homemade pálinka (traditional Hungarian fruit brandy).
