1st day / Arrive to Budapest            

The group arrives to the airport in Budapest – Round trip by bus and first meeting with the city to see the beautiful view of the capital.  – Overnight at the hotel in Budapest             

2nd day/ Budapest   

Breakfast in the hotel.

City sightseeing: Explore and enjoy the Castle District in Buda, which is on the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Erected in the 14th century and rebuilt in the Baroque style 400 years later, the royal palace was the residence of the Hungarian monarchs for 700 years. Topped by a tower of stone tracery, Matthias Church, also called the Church of teh Blessed Virgin Mary was the scene of coronations and royal weddings. The Fishermen’s Bastion, a neo-Romanesque bulwark with seven towers offers an excellent view of the city.

14:50 Boat trip on the river Danube – to the city centre (Gellért tér) on the public transport boat.

15:30 Walk to the Great Market Hall next to Liberty Bridge

The Central Market Hall is the largest and oldest indoor market of Budapest.

From 17:00 free time: Walking along Váci Street. It is the most renowned pedestrian shopping street of Budapest. It stretches for more than a mile between Vörösmarty Square and the Great Market Hall.

20:00 Dinner at a restaurant (3 courses without water)

Overnight.

3rd day, Tuesday/ Etyek

Breakfast in the hotel.

9:00 Etyek tour. Etyek is one of the most famous vine regions of Hungary. It is basically a nice little village located 26 km from Budapest with a line of traditional and beautifully renovated wine cellars. The wineries all have their own products, but besides their great wine, there are a lot of other interesting and delicious goods this place can offer, and that’s what makes Etyek the ideal stop to start discovering the country’s hidden secrets!

11:00 Cheese tasting on a cow farm, lunch on grill, traditional pig roasts.

14:00 Visiting a chocolate factory, chocolate tasting and chocolate making workshop.

16:00 Visit the wine region on spring carriage.

19:00 Tasting selected wines of the region, dinner in the winery.

The group will be accommodated in the local inn.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

4th day/ Lake Balaton – Őrség National Park                                                                         

Breakfast at the guesthouse.

8:00 Travel to Lake Balaton (1, 5 hours from Etyek).

10:00 Visit the Festetics Palace

The Festetics Family is one of the most significant ducal families of Hungary. The family, which is of Croatian origin, moved to Hungary in the 17th century. In 1739, Christopher Festetics (1696-1768) bought the Keszthely estate and its appurtenances, and chose it to be the centre of his estates. He had the palace built, brought a surgeon and craftsmen to the town, and set up a pharmacy and a hospital as well.

Sandwich lunch.

Alternative program:

Have a swim or relax at the central beach of Keszthely (A bus will be available for those who don’t want to participate in the birdwatching, but would like to get back to the repatriating station). In case of rainy weather we recommend the Hévíz Thermal Lake. (Entrance costs of the Hévíz Thermal Lake or Keszthely beach are included.)

15:00 Free time in Keszthely

17:30 Travel to the Őrség National Park (1 hour from Fenékpuszta). Arrival to the hosting guesthouse.

Welcome drink from the nearby pálinka still-room.

Traditional cauldron dinner.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

5th day / Őrség National Park                                                                                     

9:00 Breakfast with local specialities, for instance, eggplant cream, home-made bread and home-made strudel (with marrow and poppy seeds).

10:00 Departure to Őrség National Park. The walking tour includes birding, observation of the wildlife, so we’ll really dive into Hungary’s hidden side right at the beginning of the day!

Visiting the nearby farm (80-90 cattle, 10 goat, 6-8 sheep 6-8, 10-15 Vietnamese potbellied pig and poultry, rabbits) presentation. Local vegetables and cheese tasting.

13:00 Lunch in a restaurant where an innovative chef trained by Michelin-starred masters is responsible for his own impressive culinary empire. He focuses on local gastronomic traditions with an experimenting attitude to make you better acquainted with the unknown Hungary.

15:00 Back to the guesthouse and excursion to the nearest lake and to the alpaca farm on spring carriage (The caress will be led by the owner of the alpaca farm).

19:00 Dinner (3 courses with water): specialities from Őrség. Overnight.

Optional program: Handicraft program, try out the crafts of the potter and the ceramist. In Őrség, pottery has a great tradition. The loamy soil made the trade flourish. Professional knowledge was passed on to the children in several families. During the workshop, we provide all the commodities: the clay, the tools, the paint, the glazeand the brushes.

6th day/ Őrség National Park                                                                                         

Ample breakfast

10:00 The secret life of bees, herb trip and harvest. Visit to the herb and bee garden of 3.5 hectares. Apitherapy on the farm. This program provides an opportunity to experience the mystical world of bees and to learn about the medicinal properties of the different bee products. Those who wants can get close to the bees.

Lunch on the farm. The group will have delicious teas and tisanes with a two course vegan lunch, made of local, high quality bio ingredients.

Later the farm beekeeper will disclose the secrets of honey making and the abilities of bees. Naturally, we will also have the chance to taste several special honey products, including seedy honey, biscuits, and soft drinks made with honey. The program will be led by the farm beekeeper (host) and a phytotherapist (hostess).

After the program, participants will have a chance to fill their bags and pantry with home-made jams, syrups, honey, teas and herbs.

16:00 Back to the guesthouse and enjoy the surroundings

Optional program: 17:00 Bicycle tour (not included in the costs~ 5 euro).

19:00 Dinner (3 courses with water).

Overnight.

(Bus will be available all day.)

7th day / Őrség National Park- Budapest    

Breakfast.

10:00 Departure to Budapest.

14:00 Lunch in a restaurant during the way back or in Budapest.

15:30 Free time in Budapest

Optional program: Visiting Gellért Thermal Bath or Széchenyi Thermal Baths individually.

19:30 Dinner at the hotel.

8th day / Budapest/ Departure

Breakfast at the hotel. – Check-out –

For who?

For all nature lovers and those who love to explore Hungary’s hidden side. Recommended minimum age is 8 years. Participants should be able to walk in the city and in the countryside. Walking level is medium.

Group size

Maximum 8 participants per guide. With 2 guides there may be up to 15 participants.

Minimum 8 participants need for guided tours, but you can apply for self-guided tours as well. In this case, our local hosts will explain you everything and give you maps and advises.
