Gourmet adventure: Cheesemaking, lunch, wine tasting and hiking on the Ezerjó wine route to Csókakő castle – 7 November, 2020

On this gastro trip on 7 November  we will have the opportunity to make your own cheese in the modern cheesemaking factory of an old farm, we will have an insight into a family winery on the Ezerjó wine route, we will taste delicious wines and local flavours.

The all-day long program includes the following:

➢ Guided tour on the farm – curiosities about the functioning of the farm, farming, meat packing and dairy processing, visiting the cheesemaking factory.

Orondpuszta is a farm located just outside Csákberény, at the foot of the Vértes Hills. The Orond farm focuses mainly on raising Hungarian Fleckvieh cows and on dairy processing. Their main speciality is the Gomolya cheese which we can make with various flavours. 

Moreover, ripened cheese, ham, bacon, salami, sausage, liverwurst, pork sausages and chitterlings, homemade frankfurter and other delicacies are made at the farm and offered for sale. Besides the cows ponies, goats, horses are running around on the farm and are excited to see the children turn up.

➢ Making cheese together in the cheesemaker factory with the help of the fromager (max. 6 persons at the same time). Everybody makes 25-30 dkg cheese to his or her taste which can be brought back home at the end of the day.

➢ 2-course substantial lunch with alternative options (main course – oven roasted piglet, pork sausages and chitterlings, Hungarian beef paprika stew; Kürtöskalács (chimney-formed cake) roasted over charcoal). The hosts offer juices, sparkling water and wine with the lunch.

➢ After lunch we have a walk from the farm to the Csókakő  castle (3 kilometres). The castle built around 1299 was recently renovated. The castle offers a splendid view over the Csókakő town and the Mór trench. Entry is free. 

➢ Following the visit to the castle and walking along the Ezerjó Wine Route we return to the Sáfrán winery where we can have an insight into the everyday life of a winery and where everybody can enjoy wines and musts fitting best his or her taste.

The Sáfrán Winery manages 5 hectares of vineyards on the slopes of the Vértes Hills. The cheese platter and Hungarian charcuterie platter are offered at the wine tasting. This has been a winegrowing area from the 9th century and you can hear legends about the winemaking and the development of this wine region as well.  

➢ After the wine tasting we return to the farm and the minivans and cars 

Meeting point will be in the town of Csákberény. The gastro adventure starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
The programme includes cheesemaking, cheese tasting, visiting the farm, tasting 6 wines, visiting the winery cellar, meal made in oven, juice and must.

On the tour Anita will be our cheesemaker, you will meet András and his family at the winery and the tour guides.

Fee of the programme: 

HUF 20500 / person to be paid via bank transfer ahead

The programme is free until the age of 3, HUF 10000 / person until the age of 12.

The price of the transfer is 7 000 HUF / person, which starts next to the Kelenföld Railway Station.
